Comprehension

C1 Answer the following questions in two or three sentences each. 

1. Where did Prem and his family live?

Answer: Prem lived with his parents in a small village near Bandipur forest. 

2. Why was Prem sad?

Answer: Prem was sad because he heard that many trees in the forest will be cut down. He thought that where the animals and birds go if the trees would cut. So he was very sad.

3. What did Prem and his friend Nasrin do to solve the problem?

Answer: Prem and his friend Nasrin approached the authorities concerned to stop the cutting down of trees.

4. Whom did they write the letter to?

Answer: They wrote a letter to the President of Gramsabha and requested his parents and their friends to sign on it. 

5. What was the complaint about?

Answer: The complaint was to stop the cutting down of trees near the forest. 

6. Who signed the complaint?

Answer: The complaint was signed by the parents of Prem and their friends. They also took signatures of the people in the local community and those residing in nearby villages. 

7. What did the president of gramsabha write back to Prem?

Answer: “We are happy about the love you have shown towards nature. Your request for not cutting down trees in the forest has been accepted. We have decided not to cut down the trees in the forest. Now the plants, animals and birds will be safe”. That is what the president of gramsabha write back to Prem. 

C2 Discuss with your friends and answer the following questions in four to six sentences each.

1. Describe Prem’s love for the forest and the animals.

Answer: Prem had the good habit of taking an evening walk in the forest. After some days, he became friendly with the animals and birds in the forest. Prem loved trees, birds, animals and flowers. One day he heard that many trees in the forest will be cut down. He thought that where will the animals and birds go if the trees are cut. He went forest with his friend Nasrin. They found the various animals are very sad in the forest. Because the animals are knew that the trees would cut down. Prem and his friend Nasrin approached the authorities concerned to stop the cutting down of trees. They wrote a letter to the President of Gramasabha. Their request for not cutting down trees in the forest has been accepted. The president of gramasabha have decided not to cut down the trees in the forest. The plants, animals and birds will be safe because of Prem’s love for the forest and the animals.

2. How did the president of gramsabha praise Prem?

The President of Gramasabha wrote a letter to Prem and praised him. He wrote “We are happy about the love you have shown towards nature. Your request for not cutting down trees in the forest has been accepted. We have decided not to cut down the trees in the forest. Now the plants, animals and birds will be safe”. That is how the president of gramsabha praise Prem.

3. What do you learn from this lesson?

Answer: We learn from this lesson that we should not cut the trees in the forest and we should grow and save the plants which are helpful for animals and birds.
