Beesu Kamsale, Popular Folk dance of Karnataka (Artistic Diversity of India)

Kansale is the name of a percussion instrument. But it became the name of a folk art. The key in this is the tala called Kansale, which is used in this mesmerizing art form.

It is said that this tala is called Kansale because it is a hard tala made of bronze metal. There are different arguments as to how this name came about. There are two types of this unique and surprising art called Kansale. There are two types of kansale which are sitting and singing kansale and Beesu Kamsale.

In ancient times, this was called tiger step dance. The specialty of Beesu Kansale is to present the story of Shiva and Shivsharan in verse and prose along with tala and dance. Devotees of Male Mahadeshwar had to travel through impassable paths to reach the hill of Male Mahadeshwar through forest paths.

Then, out of fear of the wild animals, he was marching along, beating the bronze clapper and singing the glories of Mahadeshwar, taking great sweeping steps. Mahadeshwar’s glory and stories are memorized by Kansale artists.

In Besu Kansale, a long string is tied to the tala. The scene of dancing by holding this string and waving it to the beat is thrilling. It is not enough to see the performance performed by performing various exercises without missing a beat.
