Video – 129 killed in stampede – Indonesia fans riot in stadium after losing football match

At least 129 people were killed and 180 injured after crowd trouble erupted during an overnight football match in Indonesia’s East Java province, police said on Sunday.

129 killed, many injured in football match stampede after coup in Indonesia. Supporters of the losing team stormed the pitch and police fired tear gas, stampedes and chokeholds, police said.

At least 129 people have been killed and 180 injured after overnight riots in Indonesia’s East Java province, Reuters reported, citing police. Clashes broke out between supporters of Javanese clubs Arema and Persebaya Surabaya after the former lost a match in Malang Regency, East Java.

East Java police chief Nico Afinta said in a statement on Sunday: “In the incident, 129 people died, among them two police officers. 34 people died inside the stadium and the rest died in the hospital.” “It’s gotten anarchic.

“They started attacking the officials, they damaged the cars,” he said, adding that this happened when the fans ran to the exit gate. The fight reportedly started when thousands of Arema fans rushed the field after their team lost. Supporters of Arema’s team stormed the pitch and police had to fire tear gas, leading to stampedes and suffocation, East Java police chief Nico Afinta told reporters. Video footage posted on social media shows people storming the pitch at the stadium in Malang.

Indonesia’s Sports Minister Zainudin Amaali said safety at football matches would be reassessed and consideration was being given to not allowing spectators after a stampede killed 127 people.

Expressing regret over the incident, the Football Association of Indonesia (PSI) said after the match that the team had flown to Malang to begin an investigation into what happened. “PSI regrets the act of Arema supporters at Kanjuruhan Stadium.

We deeply regret and apologize to the families of the victims and all parties involved in the incident. For that, the PSI immediately formed an investigation team and immediately proceeded to Malang,” the statement said. Indonesia’s Human Rights Commission now investigates ground security, including the use of tear gas.
